http://www.luthierduquatuor.fr/The following links are extremely helpful. If you are researching any performing artist, violinist or violin maker or violin purchase, there is hardly any need to look further than these nine. These sites will further link you to whatever or whomever else you may be looking for. Be prepared to spend serious chunks of time reading and enjoying these sites. The data is simply immense.
1. Stewart Pollens is considered one of the top experts on the history, science, and art of violin making in the world in addition to being a luthier himself. He works in New York. http://stewartpollens.com/
2. William Bartruff and his brother Matthew have assembled on their site, the most comprehensive (in addition to useful) list of violin makers I am familiar with (includes links) http://www.violinmakers.biz/
3. Leif Luscombe (out of Canada) has a nice site which describes many things related to violin making in great detail. He also has links to other phenomenal and interesting sites related to the art. http://www.violins.ca/index.html
4. Barry Dudley constructs five string violins. He is also very generous in sharing his knowledge. http://www.dudleyviolins.com.
5. The following is my own blog - you will here find mini biographies (over 250) and photos of well-known as well as obscure violinists. If you think I've left someone out, please let me know on the blog itself. http://pronetoviolins.blogspot.com/
6. http://Instantencore.com is a link to the best and most complete music and concert promotion (and database) site on the web - covers the U.S., Europe, Russia, Japan, Latin America, and beyond. Totally fascinating.
7. Johnson String Instrument: violin, viola and cello sales, rentals, strings and accessories, plus sheet music, and much more. (A superior and comprehensive site - seriously professional.)
8. http://www.fleximusic.com is a link to a new site for composers and arrangers. It specializes in recordable music editing and composition software.
9. http://www.violindata.com/web401.htm is the link to Baxter's Database of violin and bow makers from around the world - it contains over 20,500 names with very detailed information on each. It is, of course, not free.
10. http://www.luthierduquatuor.fr/ is the link to the French violin maker Anais Gassin. She is one of the very few female makers in France and her website is precious and informative.
